JaC64 - Java based C64 Emulator
Written by Joakim Eriksson
Tuesday, 29 August 2006

JaC64 and JSIDPlay are completely written in Java and can be run from a modern web browser like Firefox, InternetExplorer or Netscape Navigator. jac64.com contains information about the emulator and JSIDPlay (100% Java sid player) as well as games and demos playable directly in your browser. On jac64.com you can try it out with classical C64 games such as Arkanoid, Commando, and California games.

One goal with JaC64 and JSIDPlay is to make it possible for Commodore C64 game and demo developers as well as C64 music composers to show their old (and new) C64 games/demos/music on-line on the web. There are some demos and games as a showcase of what JaC64 can do, and the full HVSC music collection for trying out in JSIDPlay.

The source code for JaC64 is available at sourceforge as project JaC64 with home page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/jac64.

Joakim Eriksson - Friday, 28 December 2007

I have recently integrated resid (from the Java-port of sidplay/2 made by Ken Händel) into JaC64 and within the next few days a version 1.1 of JaC64 will be released. I am also working on a stand-alone version that can be used on your desktop PC's also.

Happy New Year!

JaC64 Version 1.0!
Joakim Eriksson - Sunday, 20 May 2007

The latest version of JaC64 is now up on jac64.com. Most important fix is a workaround for getting the Java 6 javasound bug not affecting the frame rate of the emulator. If anyone still have problem with flickering / varying framerate when using the emulator please send me an email or report in the forums (or add a comment to this news item)!

Blog moved to blogger
Joakim Eriksson - Wednesday, 09 May 2007

The Devblog have been moved to blogger since the blog on this site was too slow and less robust than blogger blogs. A new version of the JaC64 emulator will be released soon. Main fix is for getting Java SE6 working good. This is due to a bug in javasound in the latest release of Java, so if you experience that the emulator seems to be running at a varying frame rate (regular slowdowns) it is due to the sound systems blocking of the main thread more than 2-300 milliseconds (which corresponds to a period of 10 frames for the C64).
